This is Jonny's Space

I just got back from showing my final animation practice piece to my tutors which can be seen here: http://www.vimeo.com/8702787

I guess it kind of went ok but if I had spent last night doing a bit more drawings of bicycles/evaluating different ways in which cg is used in the industry, I probably could of crept my grade up towards a first. Hindsight hey, wonderful thing.

My favourite part of today so far has been walking into uni and seeing the fox prints in the fresh snow. I have recently had a fox visit my garden a couple of times and he was named Bruce Foxsteen, I put bread out for him and he never returned, and now I know why. He has been going around to every house in this area, he has no need for bread when he is scavanging off 46 different households, that harlette!

I also had a nice long chat with swilkins, possibly my favourite teacher at leedsmet. He isnt great at conveying his knowledge but he is without a doubt the nicest guy I have met! Last year he actually offered to rearrange a class to suit me if I didn’t fancy getting up so early. The class started at 1pm! haha He also constantly tells me how good I am and how I am a clever chap, which is nice to hear every so often.

Anyway this is just a quick post before I finish off my last module for this semester. Goodbye and big up the swilkins

Strangers are friends that we have not met

I am a very frightened human. Seriously. Everything scares me, I have a phobia of dogs, Cats freak me out because they always look like they are about to pounce at you, Birds are getting braver and as hitchcock taught us this is bad, Wasps and bees sting, they are designed to hurt! Rodents make me shiver and spiders make me run away.

This is me, I am a wimp, but what scares me most are people. People kill other people, people mug other people, people hit other people for doing nothing but glance at them. This is not right!

Where am I going with this? Well, this has been my view on the world for a while now, and then I realised something. Not all strangers are bad, there are some brilliantly wonderful people out there but they are overshadowed by the evil wrong-doers.

You see, Animation is an area where you meet a lot of the good strangers, there are online communities absolutly filled with people willing to help out struggling artists for no charge at all. This is amazing, a lot of these people earn a living from animating, then in their spare time, they go online and teach others for free. I love these people. The other day, I was stuck with my character, does my teacher help? Does he bollocks, a stranger, from the other side of the world, takes a look at him for me. He was 14 hours on a plane away from me, and he helped me. I pay to go to a uni, and my teacher didn’t. This man, I believe his name was David, is an absolute hero to me.

This is one of the many, many, reasons I will become an animator. In what other profession are people passionate enough about their work to come home after a hard day, and then go online, and do it some more, for free. In 20 years time, when (not if) I am an animator, I promise to whomever reads this, that I will be a kind stranger and will dedicate a portion of my time each week to helping people who are in the position I am currently in. Look out for me, no doubt my screen name will still be St_jons.

Sorry for the long post

This is my latest piece of work. Its formy motion graphics module at uni. I honestly cannot decide if I am happy with it or not. There are certainly segmants I would wish to alter at some point

oh dear

Its strange how rapidly my moods have been changing lately. Today had seemed like a pretty good day untill I just got a call from my mother. She was curious as to why my phone bill had been £200 the past 2 months. £200!!!!! What the hell! This problem never happened when I was with Vodafone, no they knew how to stop things like this. ‘Would you like stop the clock sir? It means you only pay for a minute of every hour you talk’, what a great idea that is! The only problem with that great idea is that when a gormless idiot like myself changes contracts and goes with a new company, just so he can get 2 for 1 cinema tickets every week, he forgets he no longer has this wonderful invention of basically unlimited minutes.

So, in 2 months I have cost my mother £400… and in those 2 months how many free cinema tickets have I got… 3. Thats comes to a whopping saving of -£388. Well done Jonny, you absolute dickhead!

I’m trying to get to grips with what everything does on this site, so thought I would test the video thing. This is a song I have listened to non stop for a few days now,I struggle to see how this girl is not famous, all her music is fantastic and I think more people need to hear it

Deadlines Loom

I obviously have a deadline rapidly approaching because I have set up a blog. The last time I had an important deadline, I set up a Twitter account. A new addition to my online applications is just one of the many tools in my arsenal of weapons when it comes to procrastination.

A not so welcome addition to the fight appears to be developing an illness, this I could do without but alas, it draws nearer. As each minute passes I appear to gain a symptom, it started with shivers and has moved on to a headache, and I may be wrong but I sware I feel nausia in the pipeline.

By Thursday I must animate 4 seconds of a child riding a bike, fine tune my motion graphics, and complete the walk cycle of my character Roger. This is not a huge ammount, but I really hate that child riding his bike, and the thought of drawing him 100 more times with a pounding head is enough to make me weep.

I am not yet accustomed with this blogging m’larkey and kind of assume this will never be read by anyone. However, if someone happens to stumble across this collection of what is most probably, badly spelt words strung together with even poorer grammer, I have one thing to say to you, and that is ‘Hi, I’m Jonny and this is my blog.
